Your Files
Introduction
Drive is everything you have stored with us. The same files you see in the console and the desktop app, on your phone.
Finding a file
Tap the search bar and type. We look through your whole Drive, not just the folder you are standing in, so you do not have to remember where you put something.
You can switch between a list and a grid, and sort by name, size, or date, whichever makes a folder easier to read.
Adding files
Tap + and choose what to add:
- Upload Photos picks from your camera roll.
- Upload files opens your phone's file browser for anything else.
- Take photo or video captures something new and uploads it.
- Create Folder makes a folder in the one you are in.
Files are encrypted on your phone before they are sent, so what leaves your device is already unreadable to everyone but you.
Uploads keep going while you move around the app. Leave the app entirely and they may pause; they pick up again when you come back. Open the upload activity sheet from the header if you want to watch progress.
Set Upload on Wi-Fi only in Settings if you would rather uploads waited for Wi-Fi rather than using mobile data.
You need an active storage entitlement to upload or create a folder. If you do not have one, those actions stop with a storage-unavailable message. Everything already stored stays available to browse and download. Plans are managed on the console, not in the app.
Opening a file
Tap any file to open it full screen. You can swipe between files in the folder without going back to the list.
Supported previews include images (including HEIC and Live Photos on iOS), video, PDF, Word, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Markdown, HTML, JSON, and plain text. Audio files are not previewed in the app.
Opening a file decrypts it on your phone, which is why a large one can take a moment.
Saving a file to your phone
Open a file, or press and hold it in the list, and choose Download.
- Photos and videos are saved to your phone's gallery.
- Everything else is handed to your phone's share sheet, so you can save it to Files or send it straight to another app.
Organising
Press and hold any file or folder (or use the ··· menu) for its options: Get info, Rename, Download, Share via Link, or Delete. There is no Move action on mobile; rename within a folder, or download and re-upload elsewhere if you need a different location.
Select several items at once when you want to delete a group. Deleting is permanent, so we ask you to confirm first. You can turn that confirmation off in Settings if you would rather it did not ask.
