The questions people ask most often about the Hippius extension, with short answers and a link to the full story.
Do I need an account?
To save and share, yes: every capture is kept in your own Hippius Drive. To try it first, no. Capture without saving in the popup takes screenshots and recordings straight away, and they wait on your computer until you connect. Why you need a Hippius account.
Is it free?
Yes. The Free plan includes unlimited screenshots and share links, 25 recordings of up to 5 minutes, and 10 GB of storage, with a small Hippius watermark on each capture. Paid plans lift the recording limits, remove the watermark and add insights and comments. Plans and Limits.
What's the console?
The Hippius console, at console.hippius.com, is the website where your account and your files live. You sign in there, set your unlock password, and connect the extension. Your captures show up there too, under Captures.
Which password does it ask for?
Your Hippius unlock password, not your Google, GitHub or Apple password. It's a password you create once in the console, and it protects the keys to your files. A brand-new account doesn't have one yet, so set it in the console's Settings before you connect. Set your unlock password.
I forgot my unlock password. What now?
Use the 12 words the console showed you when you set it. Click Forgot your password? in the password dialog, enter the 12 words, and choose a new password. Nobody else can reset it, us included. If you forget your password.
Who can see my recordings?
The people you send the link to, and anyone they pass it on to. The key that opens a capture is inside its link, and it never reaches us, so we can't watch your recordings. Without the link, nobody can open them. Privacy and Permissions.
Do links expire?
No. A link keeps working until you turn it off in the console. If you want one that expires, or one with a password, make a second link in the console. Who can open a link, and for how long.
Why does it ask me to connect again after I restart my browser?
The connection to your account is kept only while your browser is open, so nothing that can save to your account is left on your computer. After a restart, click Connect account and Connect again. It takes a few seconds. Staying connected.
Why isn't my face in my window recording?
With Screen, your camera floats in a window of its own, so it's only in the video when you share your entire screen. For one tab, use This tab. For one window, record an Area drawn around it. Your camera with Screen.
Can I use it in Firefox or Safari?
Not yet. The extension is for Chrome and Microsoft Edge today. In Safari or Firefox, you can take screenshots and record from the Hippius console in your browser, with nothing to install.
